Seth Meyers Staffer Makes Good on Tattoo Wager After All

Will they or won’t they? That’s the question Late Night with Seth Meyers fans have been asking ever since a dare turned into a lopsided bet between the Pittsburgh Steelers-loving host and his New York Jets-stanning utility grip Kenny Coyle.

During a late September episode of “Corrections,” Meyers shared the details of a conversation with Coyle. In discussing the then-upcoming October face-off between the Jets and the Steelers, Coyle proposed that if the Jets won, Meyers would have to place a mug commemorating their victory—complete with the final score—on his desk for the rest of the football season. If the Steelers emerged triumphant, Coyle would get a tattoo of the score with Meyers’ signature next to it. They both agreed… until they didn’t.

First, Meyers began to worry what would happen if there was a tie. Coyle, meanwhile, randomly upped the stakes and said he’d get two tattoos.

When the big day finally arrived, it was Meyers who emerged the winner (if you can call it that) when the Steelers crushed the Jets in a game that ended with a score of 37 to 15. The plot thickened when Meyers announced, on the October 25 edition of “Corrections,” that Coyle reneged on the bet altogether. Last night, however, we learned that that was just a ruse—and that Coyle is indeed sporting a new bit of ink that is sure to thrill “Corrections” super-fans.

Meyers, in full Bird Bane attire, announced that Coyle did get the tattoo, despite the fact that “I begged him not to—I genuinely begged him not to—but Kenny is a man of his word.” And Meyers admitted to the audience that “I think you guys are going to be happy.”

“If you can’t be happy about this, jackals: I don’t know what we’re doing,” he added.

True to his word, Coyle got inked with the final score of the game and Meyers’ signature (which he apparently forged) plus a Steelers logo and a large, colorful image of a winking jackal.

“Are you not entertained?” Meyers asked. “Is this not what you came here for?”
