Late Night Ratings: Week of July 8, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night weekly live-plus-three ratings on a three (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Most (but not all) late night programming posted week-to-week Nielsen ratings gains after what had been a low-rated, rebroadcast-heavy holiday week.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert led the way, averaging 2,197,000 total viewers with 226,000 P18-49 for the week of July 8, 2024, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s up +81% in total viewers and +63% in P18-49 from the holiday, rebroadcast-filled week of July 1. The Late Show‘s week of July 8 averages are based on four new episodes (Monday-Thursday), and a rebroadcast on Friday.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,361,000 total viewers with 200,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-three data for the week starting July 8. That’s up +12% in total viewers and +19% in P18-49 viewers from the week prior (which featured exclusively rebroadcasts). The Tonight Show‘s week of July 8 averages are based on four new episodes (Mon-Thurs), and a rebroadcast on Friday.

Featuring guest hosts Kathryn Hahn and Kumail Nanjiani, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! actually shed viewers from the week before, even though the show aired exclusively old episodes that week. Jimmy Kimmel hosted those rebroadcasts, and these programs are very host-driven.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 1,151,000 total viewers with 154,000 P18-49 for the week of July 8, per live-plus-three data. That’s -9% and -17%, respectively, from the week before. Kimmel‘s week of July 8 averages are based on four new episodes (Mon-Weds were hosted by Hahn, Thurs by Nanjiani) and a Friday rebroadcast.

Following Fallon, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 961,000 total viewers with 160,000 P18-49 for the week of July 8, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s +47% and +70%, respectively, from the week prior (which exclusively featured episode rebroadcasts). Late Night‘s week of July 8 averages are based on four new episodes (Mon-Thurs) and a Friday rebroadcast.

Following Colbert, CBS’ After Midnight averaged 615,000 total viewers with 122,000 P18-49 for the week of July 8, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s up +21% in total viewers and +49% in P18-49 from the week prior (which also exclusively featured rebroadcasts). After Midnight‘s week of July 8 averages are based on four new episodes (Mon-Thurs) and a Friday rebroadcast.

ABC’s Nightline aired five new episodes this past week. The late night news program averaged 703,000 total viewers with 95,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data for the week of July 8. That represents a -3% in total viewers and a -4% drop off in P18-49 viewers from the week prior, when the show aired four episodes (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri).

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show aired three new episodes last week (Mon-Weds), and averaged 993,000 total viewers with 163,000 P18-49. The Daily Show did not air on the week of July 1. However, the program gained +3% in total viewers, but shed -15% in P18-49 from the show’s most recent week of new episodes (starting June 24).
