Late Night Ratings: Wednesday, June 19, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen. However, the release of ratings have been delayed an additional day due to the Juneteenth holiday.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took first place in the ratings race on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 (Juneteenth), both in total viewers and in P18-49.

The Late Show averaged a timeslot-high 1,730,000 total viewers along with 195,000 P18-49 on Wednesday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -12% and -11%, respectively, from the day before (Tuesday, June 18); -3% and flat, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode (June 12). Cynthia Erivo, and Rep. Jamaal Bowman were guests.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place at 11:35 p.m.

Kimmel averaged 1,473,000 total viewers with 106,000 P18-49 on Wednesday, June 19, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +3% in total viewers but -55% in P18-49 viewers from the night before. The episode was -27% and -74%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode (which, to be fair, had Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals as its lead-in). Dakota Johnson, Jack Quaid, and Maya Hawke were guests on the Wednesday, June 19 edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! 

The Tonight Show averaged 1,073,000 total viewers with 154,000 at 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -18% in total viewers and -26% in P18-49 viewers from the night before; -10% and -22%, respectively, from the show’s Wednesday, June 12 averages. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Luke Newton, and Michael Che were guests June 19 on The Tonight Show.

Following Fallon, the Wednesday, June 19 edition of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 680,000 total viewers with 123,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -13% in total viewers and -19% in P18-49 from the day before; -18% and -8%, respectively, from the prior Wednesday. Lupita Nyong’o, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were Meyers’ Wednesday, June 19 guests.  Mario Duplantier sat in with the 8G Band.

Unlike its late-night counterparts, CBS’ After Midnight gained viewers. Following Colbert, Wednesday’s episode averaged 660,000 total viewers with 136,000 P18-49 viewers in the 12:35 a.m. hour, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +9% in total viewers and +58% in P18-49 from the day before; +31% and +100%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday. James Davis, Ashley Nicole Black, and Laurie Kilmartin appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-fronted program Wednesday, June 19.

Following Kimmel, ABC’s Nightline averaged 739,000 total viewers with only 45,000 P18-49 in the 12:35 a.m. slot, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -1% in total viewers but -69% in P18-49 from the Tuesday episode. Relative to the prior Wednesday NBA Finals-boosted episode, Nightline fell by -37% in total viewers and by -79% in P18-49.

Lastly, The Daily Show did not air this past Wednesday on Comedy Central.
