Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Nightline are benefiting from an NBA Finals lead-in. ABC’s late night programs won their respective timeslots this past Wednesday, not only among P18-49 but also in average total viewers.
Following Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 2,029,000 total viewers and 414,000 P18-49 viewers on Wednesday, June 12, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +37% and +87%, respectively, compared to the day before (Tuesday, June 11) ; +27% and +121%, respectively, compared to the previous Wednesday broadcast (June 5). Kimmel also averaged more P18-49 viewers on Wednesday than its NBC and CBS competition combined. This was also the case following Game 1 of this year’s Finals (the prior Thursday). Tiffany Haddish, and Carrie-Anne Moss appeared on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tinashe performed.
Following Jimmy Kimmel Live! was Nightline. ABC’s late night news shows not only won the 12:35 a.m. timeslot, it even averaged more P18-49 viewers than The Late Show and The Tonight Show. Nightline‘s Wednesday, June 12 episode averaged 1,172,000 total viewers and 214,000 P18-49. That’s +58% and +102%, respectively, from the day before; +41% and +161%, respectively, from the prior Wednesday Nightline episode.
CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place at 11:35 p.m. this past Wednesday.
The Late Show averaged 1,791,000 total viewers and 195,000 P18-49 on Wednesday, June 12, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -4% and -5%, respectively from the day before; +1% but -21%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode. Late Night‘s Seth Meyers was Colbert’s guest. Omar Apollo performed on the program.
The Tonight Show averaged 1,188,000 total viewers and 197,000 P18-49 this past Wednesday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -10% but +7%, respectively, from the day before; +8% and +9%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode. Camila Cabello and Questlove were Fallon’s guests.
Following Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 833,000 total viewers and 134,000 P18-49 in the 12:35 a.m. slot. That’s -4% and -6%, respectively, from the day before; but +5% and +5%, respectively, versus the previous Wednesday episode. Will Ferrell was the guest, and Tico Torres sat in with the 8G Band.
Following Colbert, CBS’ After Midnight only averaged 504,000 total viewers with 68,000 P18-49 in the 12:35 a.m. timeslot this past Wednesday. That’s -18% and -36%, respectively, from the day before; -10% and -28%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode. Kevin Nealon, Jessica Lowe, and Dave Holmes were Taylor Tomlinson’s guests on the June 12 edition of After Midnight.
Lastly, The Daily Show guest-hosted by correspondent Jordan Klepper averaged 424,000 total viewers with 107,000 P18-49 this past Wednesday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -12% but +3%, respectively, from the day before; +1% and +15%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode. Jeremy O. Harris was Klepper’s guest on the Wednesday, June 12 Daily Show.
