CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earned first place in the late-night TV ratings race on Wednesday, June 5. The program won 11:35 p.m. not only in total viewers, but also among P18-49 — a demo it had briefly ceded to its ABC counterpart.
The Wednesday, June 5 Late Show averaged 1,778,000 total viewers with 248,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -1% in total viewers but +3% in P18-49 from the previous day’s new episode; +33% and +46%, respectively, from the prior Wednesday’s telecast (a rebroadcast). Jon Bon Jovi, and Tig Notaro were Colbert’s guests this past Wednesday, June 5.
The June 5 episode of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! delivered 1,599,000 total viewers with 187,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -11% in total viewers and -22% in P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s new episode; +5% in total viewers but -9% in P18-49 from the prior Wednesday episode (a new one). Larry David, and Cyndi Lauper were guests on Wednesday’s Kimmel. Feist performed.
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,104,000 total viewers with 181,000 P18-49 viewers this past Wednesday at 11:35 p.m. That’s -14% in total viewers but +3% in P18-49 from the previous day’s new episode; -21% but +23%, respectively, from the prior Wednesday’s telecast (a rebroadcast). Jim Gaffigan, Cole Escola, and Andrew Huberman were Fallon’s guests. Shaboozey performed on the program.
Following Fallon on Wednesday, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 790,000 total viewers with 128,000 P18-49, No. 1 in the 12:35 a.m. timeslot. That’s up +5% in total viewers and +1% in P18-49 from the previous day’s new episode; +1% and +45%, respectively from the previous Wednesday telecast (a rebroadcast). Amy Poehler, and Stephen Merchant appeared on Wednesday’s installment of Late Night. Roni Kaspi continued to sit in with the Studio 8G band.
Following Colbert, After Midnight averaged 558,000 total viewers with 94,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:35 a.m. on CBS. The Taylor Tomlinson led-program gained +0.4% in total viewers (+2,000) but shed -28% in P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s new episode; -4% but +12%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday telecast (a rebroadcast). Sasheer Zamata, Joe Lo Truglio, and Aparna Nancherla appeared on the Wednesday, June 5 episode.
Following Kimmel, ABC News’ Nightline averaged 830,000 total viewers with 82,000 P18-49 on Wednesday, June 5. That’s -5% in total viewers and -23% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; +14% but -19%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s new episode.
Lastly, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was hosted by Ronny Chieng Tuesday-Thursday this week, and per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, the Wednesday, June 5 episode averaged 420,000 total viewers with 93,000 P18-49. That’s +0.5% in total viewers (+2,000) but -10% among P18-49 from the night before. The Daily Show did not air the week of May 27. Relative to the most recent Wednesday episode (May 22 hosted by Michael Kosta), however, the June 5 Daily Show shed -5% in total viewers, and -18% among P18-49. Joel Kim Booster appeared on the June 5 Daily Show.
