Josh Johnson to Host 30th Annual Webby Awards

Josh Johnson has been snagged by The Webby Awards.

The stand-up comic and Daily Show host/correspondent/writer has been tapped to host this year’s celebration of achievements across podcasts, AI, websites, creators, video/film, social media, games, and apps/software. The ceremony will be held Monday, May 11, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

Nominees will be announced Tuesday, March 31.

“I’m really honored to be hosting this year’s Webbys,” Johnson said in a statement. “The internet and social media we have can be pretty devastating sometimes, so to come together and celebrate more of the internet we want is a dream.”

Jesse Feister, executive director at Webby Media Group, said, “Josh continues to push boundaries and earn acclaim for himself, combining sharp wit with an empathetic instinct for championing the voices in our community. His point of view and humor come from a real understanding of the Internet and everything that comes with it.”

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Johnson. This past weekend he recorded his first HBO special, which is set to premiere later this year, and in February he was a guest on Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’s IMO podcast.

Johnson joined the host rotation of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show midway through its 2025 run and immediately connected with viewers—particularly those in the advertiser-coveted 18–49 demo. He went on to host 15 times in 2025, and as we speak he is in the midst of his second 2026 stint at the anchor desk.

Late-night TV put in a good showing at last year’s Webby Awards, where The Daily Show amassed three wins, Saturday Night Live player Marcello Hernández was honored for Outstanding Comedic Performance, SNL‘s live show coverage on Instagram scored two wins for Best Use of Stories, and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon won Best Use of Vertical Video.

Additionally, Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s social content last year won Best Social for a TV show or film, while the People’s Voice Winner in the same category went to CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers took home a podcasting Webby for a 10th anniversary oral history of its Late Night with Seth Meyers Podcast; the pod also won for Best Individual Episode from a TV show or film.
