Veronika Slowikowska spent much of her rookie season at Saturday Night Live quietly releasing pop music under another name.
The SNL featured player has revealed herself as the musician behind “Me As a Girl,” an indie-pop project that’s been releasing music since late 2025 without publicly connecting Slowikowska’s name to it.
Slowikowska made the connection explicit this week with the release of a new single, “i don’t know why i said that,” sharing the project from her own Instagram account for the first time.
LateNighter has learned she plans to release more music next month and is set to play her first live show as Me As a Girl in New York City in September.
The project actually launched just weeks into Slowikowska’s first season at Studio 8H. Me As a Girl’s first single, “when you had me you ran away,” was released Nov. 21, 2025. A four-song EP, it’s all possible, followed on March 30, gathering that track with three additional songs.
The new single—out today (listen below)—marks the first Me As a Girl release since the EP and the first time Slowikowska has publicly identified herself with the project.
Though Me As a Girl leans into synth-pop and bedroom-pop sounds with no apparent comedic component, music has occasionally surfaced in her comedy work, including improvised songs on nevermind., the podcast she hosted with Kyle Chase, and on SNL itself, where she and fellow featured player Jane Wickline collaborated on the musical pretapes “Cousin Planet” and “Car Song.”
Slowikowska joined the SNL cast alongside Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Ben Marshall ahead of Season 51. Though she’s widely expected to return for the show’s upcoming 52nd season, her official status has not yet been formally announced.
“i don’t know why i said that” is now available on streaming services under the Me As a Girl name.
