After Midnight may be over, but it just achieved another first. The late CBS late-night show received its first Emmy nomination.
After Midnight grabbed a nod for Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Series, giving the team a much-deserved reason to celebrate after saying goodbye to the two-season series last month.
The show submitted its February 25, 2025 episode featuring guests Jonah Ray, Kumail Nanjiani, and Emily Gordon for consideration in the category. The nomination puts technical director Christine Salomon up for the win alongside six camera people: Lauren Gadd, Dawn Henry, Chris Hamilton, Cory Hunter, Cary Symmons, and Jani Zandovskis.
Tomlinson’s 12:30 CBS panel show, executive produced by Stephen Colbert, had reportedly already been renewed for a third season when is said to have CBS revered course aafter Taylor Tomlinson decided to leave the show to focus on her standup comedy career.
After Midnight came up short of a nomination in its major series category, Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. As was widely expected, that wound up being a two-show race between Saturday Night Live and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Currently standing in the way of After Midnight’s sole Emmy win are four other nominees, including three late-night shows. Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, and Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney are all contenders, as is The Voice. After Midnight‘s predecessor show, Comedy Central’s @midnight, garnered two Emmy wins of its own during its 2013-2017 run, both for “Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Social TV Experience.”
CBS’ late-night Emmy haul also includes two noms for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: One for Outstanding Talk Series, and one for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series.
The Emmy award for Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in a ceremony that takes place over two nights on September 6-7th. A broadcast of the event will air on September 13th at 8 PM ET/PT on FXX.
