As summer winds down, so too has production on most of the major late-night shows. With the exception of Nightline and Gutfeld!, every show we track is dark this week, with Fallon, Kimmel, and The Daily Show all set to return Tuesday, September 8.
LateNighter will also be (mostly) off through Labor Day, though if big news breaks while we’re gone, we’ll dip back in.
Here’s who’s on and off the week of August 31, 2026:
Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Gone. Jimmy Kimmel remains on his annual summer vacation, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! is dark this week following the close of its summer guest-host run. Kimmel is set to return next Tuesday, September 8.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Gone. Jimmy Fallon remains off this week as The Tonight Show wraps up its late-summer break. Fallon is scheduled to return with new episodes Tuesday, September 8.
Comics Unleashed
Gone. Both nightly installments of Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen airing in CBS’ late-night block remain in repeats this week. First-run episodes are set to begin airing again in the show’s first half hour on September 21.
Funny You Should Ask
Gone. The second hour of Byron Allen’s CBS late-night block also remains in repeat mode. Funny You Should Ask is set to begin airing first-run episodes in its first half hour on September 21.
Late Night with Seth Meyers
Gone. Seth Meyers remains off this week as Late Night continues its seven-week summer break. The show is scheduled to return with new episodes September 21.
Nightline
On. ABC’s late-night newsmagazine is one of the week’s two remaining late-night originals, with new episodes scheduled to continue airing this week.
The Daily Show
Gone. The Daily Show remains dark this week as it closes out its five-week summer hiatus. The Comedy Central series is scheduled to return with new episodes Tuesday, September 8.
Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen
Gone. Andy Cohen’s Bravo clubhouse remains dark this week, with Watch What Happens Live taking another week off.
Gutfeld!
On. As with most cable news shows, Gutfeld! is expected to continue airing new episodes this week, using guest hosts when needed.
Real Time with Bill Maher
Gone. Bill Maher is off on a quick one-week hiatus, with Real Time scheduled to return with a new episode Friday, September 11.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Gone. John Oliver remains off this week, with Last Week Tonight scheduled to return Sunday, September 20.
Saturday Night Live
Gone. No change here: Saturday Night Live remains on summer hiatus after closing out Season 51 in May. The show is set to kick off Season 52 on September 26, 2026, with repeats continuing in the meantime. Last October’s Sabrina Carpenter double duty episode is set to re-air over the Labor Day weekend.
