See You in September: The Daily Show Is Taking Five Weeks Off

That’s a wrap on The Daily Show for the summer.

The long-running Comedy Central series is beginning an extended break that will keep it off the air until Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The show made it official with a promo announcing the break during Jordan Klepper‘s Thursday night episode:

This marks the second year in a row that The Daily Show has gone dark for the month of August, though the show’s history of extended summer breaks goes back much further.

In 2015, the show took a seven-week break between the end of Jon Stewart’s first run and Trevor Noah’s debut as host. Six years later, staffers took off a full three months between the conclusion of The Daily Social Distancing Show in June 2021 and the show’s return to the studio that September. The 2023 WGA strike then shut down production for five months, from early May through mid-October.

This year’s break is set to conclude Tuesday, September 8, the day after Labor Day.

With the 78th Emmy Awards scheduled for the following Sunday, the show will also be dark Monday, September 14, as staffers travel back from Los Angeles. It remains to be seen whether that means viewers will have to wait another two weeks for the next Jon Stewart-hosted edition. Although Stewart is the show’s resident Monday-night host, he has occasionally turned up on other nights of the week.

Comedy Central will fill The Daily Show’s 11 p.m. ET time slot with repeats of other programming during the break. (South Park repeats will occupy the slot next week.)

Ok, so no Kimmel or Daily Show until September 8. When’s Seth Meyers coming back?

  2. Rosemary Aloia says:

I love the show, but I don’t understand why Jesus Christs’ name is used as a slur and a curse. So far, Josh Johnson is the only one who doesn’t do this. Why can’t you substitute mother fucker, son of a bitch or anything else? Of course, your team isn’t the only celebrity or comedian who slings His name around. Why is this so common?

    1. Doc says:

Because it does not matter. There never was anyone named Jesus Christ. Just bad translations of bad translations.

  3. Deborah Lynn Reinertson says:

My husband and I miss you all! Can’t wait for you to come back. You were one of the highlights of our day!
