Thursday night’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers was the NBC show’s final first-run installment until September 21, beginning a break that will stretch across nearly two months. It is the longest planned hiatus in the show’s history.
NBC will air repeats of the show throughout the break. That distinguishes its plans from those of The Daily Show, which signed off Thursday night for a five-week summer vacation. Comedy Central will take the show completely off the air during its hiatus, filling its Monday-through-Thursday 11 p.m. time slot with alternate programming until its return Tuesday, September 8—the day after Labor Day.
For Late Night, a seven-week production shutdown is new territory. Since launching in February 2014, the show has occasionally taken breaks as long as three or four weeks, but never one this long outside of the five-month shutdown caused by the 2023 writers strike.
The show’s September 21 return will mark the first episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers’ 14th season. Meyers is the second-longest-tenured host in the NBC franchise’s history, behind Conan O’Brien, who logged 16 seasons from 1993 to 2009.
Seth Meyers himself has nearly a dozen live appearances scheduled during the break, including stand-up shows across the Northeast, two live editions of his Family Trips podcast with brother Josh Meyers, and performances on Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard.
