Drunk Uncle Returns to SNL to Celebrate the Brewers’ World Series Win

Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle had plenty to celebrate on Saturday Night Live this week.

Moynihan returned to the “Weekend Update” desk Saturday night for Drunk Uncle’s 16th appearance on the show—this time to toast the Milwaukee Brewers’ first World Series championship.

“My dream of a beer winning the World Series finally came true,” Drunk Uncle told Colin Jost. “Brewers in five!”

He added that he’d been drinking since the team clinched Wednesday night. “And also for the last 57 years before that.”

From there, Drunk Uncle did what Drunk Uncle does, complaining that baseball “is not the same anymore” while mangling a procession of cultural references, including Moneyball, Elizabeth Holmes, and the WNBA.

Eventually, however, his celebration took a melancholy turn.

“I’m just worried that maybe a beer didn’t win the World Series,” he admitted. “Maybe this was all a dream.”

Cue the World Series champions.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy and players Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich walked onto the “Update” set carrying the Commissioner’s Trophy, assuring Drunk Uncle that Milwaukee’s championship was very real.

“And we have something in common, Drunk Uncle,” Frelick told him. “We’ve also been drinking since Wednesday.”

Moynihan, who was an SNL cast member from 2008 to 2017, most recently revived Drunk Uncle during SNL50: The Anniversary Special in 2025. Saturday marked the character’s first appearance on a regular episode since October 2022.

That 2022 appearance came during the same episode in which Moynihan reunited with Tom Hanks and Mikey Day for the second full David S. Pumpkins sketch. Saturday night once again found Moynihan pulling double duty, with Drunk Uncle following his appearance alongside Hanks and Day in the show’s cold open.
