The Daily Show took a page out of Seth Meyers’ playbook, kicking off its week of Chicago shows by taking Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker out day drinking.
Ahead of its first episode from the Democratic National Convention on Monday, the show released a clip of The Daily Show contributor and co-host Jordan Klepper’s day in Chicago with Pritzker. What’s intended to be a tour of the city quickly becomes a pub crawl as Klepper continues to pass by familiar bars and exclaim, “I used to drink here!”
Klepper made the most of his time with the governor by asking the important questions, including: Why is Chicago the right place to hold the DNC? Was he surprised when Biden stepped down? And most importantly, “Is The Bear a comedy or a drama?”
“I don’t know why it’s in the comedy category,” Pritzker admitted. “But I’ve gotta say, it’s one of the best shows on TV.”
The governor, who was in the spotlight in recent weeks as a possible vice presidential pick for Kamala Harris, also reflected on Harris’ selection of Walz as her running mate.
“I think he’s actually the perfect pick,” Pritzker tells Klepper. “I immediately, of course, was coming up with hashtags. You know, #BallsToTheWalz.”
For his part, Klepper is no stranger to Chi-town. He came up in the Chicago comedy scene, performing at The Second City.
Governor Pritzker is scheduled to appear at the DNC on Monday—the first of the event’s four-night run in Chicago. The Daily Show is on the ground in the city to cover it all, just weeks after having to scrap plans to broadcast from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July.
The Daily Show will kick off its week of DNC shows with host Michael Kosta on Monday at 11 p.m. ET. Desi Lydic will take the helm on Tuesday night with Klepper sitting behind the desk on Wednesday night. Jon Stewart will cap off the week with a live broadcast at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday.
