Space Ghost Coast to Coast Voice Actor George Lowe Dies

The voice of late-night television’s favorite animated host has passed away. George Lowe, who voiced the character Space Ghost in the cartoon Space Ghost Coast to Coast, died on March 2nd. He was 67 years old.

Writer Will Harris first shared the news via Blueky.

Lowe lent his voice to all seasons of Space Ghost Coast to Coast—the animated late-night series that positioned the 1960s Hanna-Barbera character Space Ghost as a late-night talk show host.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast hit the airwaves in 1994 as Cartoon Network’s first original programming. In 2001, it helped anchor the network’s then-new late-night block Adult Swim, where it remained until 2004. Adult Swim paid tribute to Lowe in a social media post following news of his death.

After Adult Swim, the show was given two more seasons on online service GameTap before wrapping up for good. Lowe also voiced the character in appearances (both animated and in real-life costume) in other media, from talk shows and news programs to the 2007 film Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.

Aside from Space Ghost, Lowe voiced an array of other characters on Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Perfect Hair Forever.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast voice actor and producer Andy Merrill also reacted to the news on social media.

During the show’s run, Space Ghost Coast to Coast memorably welcomed fellow late-night host Conan O’Brien, and paid homage to David Letterman in an episode scripted by Late Show writers Spike Feresten and Steve O’Donnell.
