SNL’s Marcello Hernández Details Plans for First Netflix Comedy Special

Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernández announced Thursday that he’ll be taping his debut Netflix stand-up comedy special in his hometown of Miami, Florida. The rising SNL star will film the hour-long set on Friday, September 19, and Saturday, September 20, at the historic Olympia Theater.

The special, which has yet to receive a name or a release date from Netflix, will mark Hernández’s debut for the streaming giant. He’s been honing the material all summer, telling Esquire earlier this week, This hour is my whole life, you know? It’s my baby. It’s my wedding.” He described the set as a fun love letter to my upbringing and my family” that he hopes will help audiences get to know him better.

News of the project first surfaced in a Rolling Stone profile earlier this year, which caught Hernández testing new material at Georgia’s Helium Comedy Club. The 27-year-old comic joined SNL in 2022 and has since become one of the show’s breakout players, thanks to recurring sketches like “Immigrant Dad Talk Show,” his “Couple You Can’t Believe Are Together” duo with Jane Wickline, and the TikTok-viral “Domingo” character—a role he’s brought everywhere from the SNL 50 anniversary special to a Sabrina Carpenter concert.

Tickets to the Miami tapings went on sale Thursday and quickly sold out.

Hernández’s special is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year, joining what’s become a crowded slate of SNL-adjacent stand-up releases in 2025. Please Don’t Destroy self-released a comedy special earlier this summer on YouTube, Devon Walker’s LOL Live stand-up special premieres on Hulu today, and Sarah Squirm (known on SNL as Sarah Sherman) is set to tape her debut stand-up special August 23 in Brooklyn.

Saturday Night Live returns for its 51st season premiere on October 4. NBC has yet to announce which cast members will be back.
