Seth Meyers Lands on Winning Side of Tattoo Bet

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New York Jets on Sunday, which was a victory for both the team and its fans, yes. But an even bigger win for Seth Meyers

For the past month, we’ve been reporting on a wager Meyers—a lifelong Steelers fan—made with Kenny Coyle, a Late Night utility grip and fierce Jets devotee. As Meyers explained during a September edition of “Corrections,” the original bet was as follows: If the Jets won, Meyers had to place a mug featuring the final score on his desk for the rest of the football season. If the Steelers won, Coyle would get a tattoo of the score and his boss’ signature on his arm. Uneven? Sure—but that didn’t seem to bother Coyle. In fact, just one week after the original bet, Coyle suggested they change the terms and offered to get two tattoos.

In the weeks since, both Meyers and Coyle worried what would happen if the game ended in a tie. (Coyle’s suggestion if that were the end result? “‘You gotta get my face tattooed on yours,’” Meyers recounted, while rolling his eyes at the increasingly absurd stakes.)

Ultimately, the original bet seems to be the one that stuck. Which means that Coyle is now obligated to be permanently saddled with a reminder that the Steelers walloped his Jets in a game that ended with a score of 37 to 15, alongside Meyers’ autograph to remind him of how he got here.

Meyers will undoubtedly share an update on the wager on this week’s edition of “Corrections” on Thursday (if not sooner).
