Saturday Night might not be ready for primetime, but it’s ready for Telluride.
The upcoming SNL biopic will screen at this weekend’s Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, it was just revealed.
The Jason Reitman-directed movie—a real-time account of the 90 minutes leading up to the 1975 premiere of Saturday Night Live—has been generating a ton of buzz since production began earlier this year (under the working title SNL 1975).
Earlier this month, it was announced Saturday Night would make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10. At the time, there was speculation the film might also make its way to Telluride.
The 51st annual Telluride Film Festival kicks off on Friday, August 30 and runs through Monday, September 2. According to the program guide, Saturday Night will premiere, fittingly, on Saturday night (albeit at 7:15 p.m). It’ll screen again on Sunday at 6:15 p.m., where it will be followed by a Q&A with Reitman and Gil Kenan, who wrote the movie together. A third showing is scheduled for Monday morning.
Also attending Telluride will be Will Ferrell and former SNL writer Harper Steele. They’ll be there for a Q&A following a screening of their documentary Will & Harper ahead of its September 27 release on Netflix.
The doc follows the two close friends as they embark on a road trip and Ferrell seeks to learn about Steele’s coming out as a trans woman. (Will & Harper will screen a second time just before the Sunday showing of Saturday Night.)
Saturday Night will hit theaters on October 11, the 49th anniversary of SNL’s first-ever episode.
