Crocs, those foundationally quirky foam sandles that burst into the mainstream in the late 2000s may have found their perfect match in Saturday Night Live cast member Sarah Sherman, aka “Sarah Squirm.”
A new 60-second video recently posted to both the @crocs and @sarahsquirm Instagram accounts creatively incorporates the shoe brand into a low-res 90s-era point and click computer game called Get Ready with Sarah Squirm.
Presented from a player’s point of view, the clip begins with a wildly dressed and very pixelated Sarah exclaiming, “Hi! I’m almost ready to go on my big date but I’m not wearing any shoes!” Cut to a fly loudly buzzing by her feet, which are indeed only covered by a pair of dirty red crew socks.
The player then advances to a stage of the game where they are presented with three footwear options, including a set of classic white Crocs. Sarah swifty rejects the alternative pairs of hairy bare feet and horse hooves, the latter of which prompt her to say, “Hey! Do I look like a horse to you? Don’t answer that.”
Once the Crocs (featuring a few warm-colored pom pom and bow Jibbitz) are chosen, Sarah happily responds with, “Alright! Those are pretty cool. Let’s see what my date thinks!” Cue Glorbus, an animated, one-eyed green blob who greets his lady by licking her face with his absurdly long tongue.
“Glorbus is pleased,” proclaims Sarah. “Thanks Crocs!”.
The shoes are then shown to be officially “Glorbus Approved,” with the creature’s credibility bolstered by the caption “Glorbus >>> ur man”.
Sherman’s Crocs video is just the latest example of an SNL cast member partnering up with a brand for a social media influencer campaign. Over the summer, the Please Don’t Destroy guys produced two sketches in collaboration with Dunkin’ Donuts, and Bowen Yang (along with his Las Culturistas co-host Matt Rogers) took to the kitchen with Betty Crocker in a recent branded video of their own.
