New York City subway riders could be getting a small dose of The Daily Show on their commute.
Ronny Chieng is the latest entertainer to lend his voice to public service announcements for the MTA’s subway service in New York City.
The comedian and rotating TDS host revealed the partnership in a social media video that includes snippets of the audio messages riders will periodically hear on subway platforms.
Chieng affects a frustrated voice as he reprimands riders for various subway faux pas, in messages like:
- “Can you please move into the train so other people can get on? Thank you. Courtesy counts.”
- “Unless it’s old school hip-hop, nobody wants to hear your music or your phone call. Put your headphones on.”
- “If you didn’t know already, it’s 2026, and you really should be tapping and riding with your credit card, phone, or OMNY card. Come on!”
Chieng follows in the footsteps of Saturday Night Live vet Kenan Thompson as the latest late-nighter to lend his voice to the MTA. Last year, Thompson recorded three PSAs for riders ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary special.
Chieng has lived in New York City for over a decade, having moved to the city after being hired as a correspondent for The Daily Show. In addition to being one of the show’s rotating weekly hosts, he recently wrapped his “Hasan Hates Ronny | Ronny Hates Hasan” comedy tour with former TDS correspondent Hasan Minhaj. (They’re set to perform two more shows at the Netflix Is a Joke Fest this May.)
Announcing the subway announcements, the comic wrote that he was “honored” to record the new messages, declaring “New York City forever.”
But one thought did give the comic pause in his new video, seen below.
“Wait,” says Chieng. “Does this mean I work for the MTA now?”
