Late Night Ratings: Veterans Day Was Bad News for Everyone But The Daily Show (Nov. 11, 2024)

Note: LateNighter’s daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Monday’s week-over-week ratings delivered declining results for every late-night show except The Daily Show—though Veterans Day could be partly to blame. Still, CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert continued to average the most total viewers at 11:35 p.m., while NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon  moved past its competition to draw the most viewers 18-49.

The Monday, November 11 episode of Colbert averaged a time slot-high 1,641,000 total viewers with 200,000 P18-49. That’s down -23% in total viewers and -30% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode (Nov. 4). Chris Evans, Javier Bardem, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson were guests on the program.

Monday’s Tonight Show averaged 1,199,000 total viewers with a time slot-high 210,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. That’s down -2% in total viewers and -4% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Fallon was joined on Monday’s Tonight Show by guests Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Rebecca Ferguson. Riley Green & Ella Langley performed on the program.

Elsewhere at 11:35 p.m., ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place in total viewers (1,362,000) and third among P18-49 (93,000). The Nov. 11 Kimmel shed -37% in total viewers and -72% among P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday’s episode. In addition to being negatively impacted by the holiday, it’s worth noting that the Nov. 4 Jimmy Kimmel Live! had a Monday Night Football lead-in on ABC. That was not the case this past Monday.

Moving ahead to 12:35 a.m., the Monday, Nov. 11 episode of NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers averaged a time slot-high 806,000 total viewers with 111,000 P18-49. That’s down -5% in total viewers and -13% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Jim Parsons and Wendi McLendon-Covey were Meyers’ guests on the program.

Airing after The Late Show, After Midnight averaged 551,000 total viewers with 107,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s down -9% in total viewers and -21% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Milana Vayntrub, Jessica Lowe, and Jason Ritter were Taylor Tomlinson’s guests on the program.

The Nov. 11 edition of Nightline averaged 702,000 total viewers with only 47,000 P18-49. That’s down -39% in total viewers and -76% among P18-49 from the previous Monday episode (which had been lifted by Monday Night Football). The Monday, Nov. 11 Nightline was retitled as “NL-ABC” due to the Veterans Day holiday, and its Nielsen ratings will not count toward the show’s season averages.

Lastly, Jon Stewart returned to his Monday Daily Show perch this week, and his Nov. 11 episode averaged 594,000 total viewers with 116,000 viewers aged 18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s up +10% in total viewers and +7% in P18-49 from the most recent Monday Daily Show (hosted by Jordan Klepper), -10% and +3%, respectively, from Stewart’s most-recent Monday episode (Oct. 28). Military journalist Thomas Brennan was Stewart’s guest on the program this week.

I love how networks remove a show that received a 76 percent crash in their Demo Ratings from their season “averages.”
