A Monday Night Football lead-in on ABC lifted Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Nightline to Nielsen ratings wins on Monday, October 28.
JKL was dark the week of Oct. 21, and returned with a new episode this past Monday, which started at 12:06 a.m. due to MNF overrun. Kimmel’s Oct. 28 episode went on to average 1,768,000 total viewers with a timeslot-high 293,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s up +21% in total viewers and +9% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s telecast. Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Eiza González were Kimmel’s guests this past Monday. Tears for Fears performed.
Following Jimmy Kimmel Live!, ABC’s Nightline averaged 984,000 total viewers with 142,000 P18-49 beginning at 1:08 a.m. That’s up +11% in total viewers but down -18% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode.
While Kimmel might have captured the lion’s share of the 18-49 demographic, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged more total viewers than its ABC (and NBC) counterparts. Featuring guests Robin Wright, and Nicole Scherzinger, the Monday, Oct. 28 Late Show averaged a timeslot-high 1,942,000 total viewers with 257,000 P18-49. That’s down -9% in total viewers and -2% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode (Oct. 21).
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon took third place on Monday, having averaged 1,130,000 total viewers with 163,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. That’s down -3% in total viewers and -7% in P18-49 from the previous Monday telecast (a rerun). The Monday, Oct. 28 episode featured guests Reba McEntire, Lauren Lapkus, A.J. & Big Justice, the Rizzler, and musical guest Sevdaliza featuring Yseult.
Featuring guests Molly Shannon, and Brooks Wheelan, the Monday, Oct. 28 episode of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 883,000 total viewers with 136,000 P18-49 at 12:37 a.m. That’s down just -0.2% in total viewers and -4% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode.
Airing after The Late Show, After Midnight averaged 566,000 total viewers with 104,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s down -4% in total viewers and -25% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Nick Kocher, Brian McElhaney, and Demi Adejuyigbe were guests on the program.
Lastly, Jon Stewart welcomed Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro to The Daily Show this past Monday, and the episode averaged 657,000 total viewers with 113,000 viewers aged 18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s down -22% in total viewers and -28% in P18-49 from the most recent Monday Daily Show (Stewart’s highly-rated sit-down with Gov. Tim Walz on Oct. 28) Stewart made some news of his own on Monday’s episode, announcing that he will continue to host the show on a weekly basis through 2025.
