Jimmy Kimmel may be on vacation, but his namesake ABC late-night show continues to lean into politics, with Anthony Anderson set to kick off his week-long guest-hosting stint tonight with voting rights advocate, politician, and bestselling author Stacey Abrams.
Abrams is technically there to promote Coded Justice, her new legal thriller and the latest in her bestselling Avery Keene series. But with Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” having just become law last Friday, and Abrams among those who’ve passionately spoken out against it (she recently dubbed it the “Terrible Tyrannical Bill” on her Assembly Required podcast), it’s a safe bet that their conversation will turn to current events.
Tonight’s visit will mark Abrams’ third visit to Jimmy Kimel Live! overall, and her first with Anderson behind the desk — though it’s not their first collaboration. Back in 2020, she voiced herself in a special animated episode of Black-ish that tackled civic engagement.
Kimmel is now three weeks into his annual summer vacation. JKL was dark last week for the July 4th holiday, but before that, Diego Luna made waves during his week-long guest-hosting stint, earning comparisons to Harry Belafonte as he used the platform to put a human face on the Trump Administration’s increasingly draconian round-ups of undocumented immigrants.
