March 2024 Late Night Ratings: Several Shows Gain Viewers

Note: With the exception of The Daily Show, each of these late night offerings air five nights a week. *Only original/first-run episodes are included in the averages below. Repeats are excluded.

Several late-night shows posted month-to-month Nielsen ratings gains in March 2024.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was the No. 1 show in all of late-night for March 2024, both in total viewers (2,656,000) and in P18-49 viewers (291,000), according to live-plus-seven Nielsen data across 15 original episodes.

The Late Show saw a +3% gain in total viewers and a +1% gain in P18-49 viewers from Feb. 2024. However, the program shed -5% in total viewers and -6% in P18-49 viewers vs. March 2023.

CBS’ After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson averaged the most P18-49 viewers of the 12:37 a.m. late-night shows (159,000), but finished behind ABC and NBC in the timeslot in total viewers (723,000) over its 15 original episodes in March. After Midnight shed -3% in total viewers and -4% in P18-49 viewers from February 2024 — its first full month on the air.

Heading back to 11:35 p.m., ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place, with ABC drawing more total viewers, but NBC drawing more P18-49 viewers than its counterpart.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! had a positive ratings month, having averaged 1,833,000 total viewers and 201,000 P18-49 viewers in March 2024, per Nielsen live-plus-seven data over 12 original episodes. Compared with the month prior, that’s up +10% in total viewers, and +5% in P18-49 viewers. Compared with the year-ago month (March 2023), the show gained +4% in total viewers but saw a -7% decline in P18-49 viewers.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,428,000 total viewers and 227,000 P18-49 viewers in March 2024, per Nielsen live-plus-seven data over 25 original episodes. Compared with the month prior, that’s up +1% in total viewers and steady in P18-49 viewers. Compared with the year-ago month ( March 2023), however, Fallon’s Tonight Show shed -2% in total viewers and -15% in P18-49 viewers.

NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers was the most-watched late-night offering at 12:37 a.m. this past month, averaging 983,000 total viewers and 153,000 P18-49 viewers over 16 original episodes. That’s up +3% in total viewers, and +6% in P18-49 from February, +2%, and -15%, respectively, from the year-ago month.

Across 24 original episodes, ABC’s half-hour late night news program Nightline averaged the second-most total viewers at 12:37 a.m. this past month (855,000), and third-most P18-49 viewers (112,000). That’s -4% and -3%, respectively, from the previous month, -7% and -22%, respectively from the year-ago month.

The Daily Show on Comedy Central averaged 1,121,000 total viewers and 209,000 P18-49 viewers in March 2024, per Nielsen live-plus-seven data over 16 original episodes. The show shed -10% in total viewers and -11% in P18-49 from February 2024, which was Jon Stewart’s first month back on the show, but gained +76% in total viewers and +41% in P18-49 viewers from the Stewart-less month of March 2023.
