The late-night shows have their Thanksgiving plans in order, but only some are bringing us to the party.
Just one network will maintain its regular programming amid the holiday—but that does mean we’ll be getting a decent helping of new late-night episodes next week, including on Thanksgiving Day itself.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is taking the whole week off. One might assume that’s so Colbert can carve out time to prep all the recipes from his new cookbook ahead of Thursday’s big meal, but The Daily Show and his CBS lead-out After Midnight are following suit. All three shows will be dark next week.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel Live! plans to produce new episodes on Monday and Tuesday. Kimmel and his team will then take the rest of the week off.
Over at NBC, however, the late-night lineup will be business as usual. Both The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers will be cranking out new episodes all week long, including on Thanksgiving Day. Those Thursday episodes will be taped Wednesday.
Meyers is set to once again welcome his family as guests for the Thanksgiving episode. He’s interviewed brother Josh and parents Hilary and Larry every Thanksgiving episode since he began, making this the 10th year of the tradition.
Fallon’s Thanksgiving night episode will see the host partake in a holiday tradition of his own, as he welcomes Jerry Seinfeld back for his fifth Thanksgiving night visit to the show. Fallon will get some extra exposure that morning as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where he’s expected to perform a selection from his new hit holiday album.
NBC’s even dropping a little something extra in the middle of the week. On Wednesday’s Thanksgiving Eve, take a trip back through SNL past with the two-hour SNL Thanksgiving special, A Saturday Night Thanksgiving.
Bookmark LateNighter’s lineups area for complete guest lists across all of the shows for Thanksgiving week and every week.
Speaking of traditions, it’s become a semi tradition for Fallon to have Jerry Seinfeld as a guest on Thanksgiving, which is happening again this year.
Riv, thanks for pointing this out. We’ve added a line to the post referencing this.
Lovely–thanks again for this service.
