Staffers from two East Coast late-night shows have reason to feel optimistic as they travel to Los Angeles this weekend for this year’s Creative Arts Emmys.
That’s because GoldDerby has issued its official odds for 31 of this year’s Creative Arts Awards categories, and SNL and Last Week Tonight are among those most favored to win.
NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which is nominated in multiple Creative Arts categories, is predicted to win for “Best Variety Series Directing,” while HBO’s Last Week Tonight is the favorite for “Best Variety Series Writing.”
Late-night vet Conan O’Brien is also in the mix, with his Max series Conan Must Go predicted to win “Best Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special”
There will likely be additional late-night winners across three short form categories not being handicapped by GoldDerby. Nominees in those categories include Late Night with Seth Meyers: Corrections, Overtime With Bill Maher, The Daily Show: Desi Lydic Foxsplains, The Daily Show: After the Cut, and SNL Presents: Behind the Sketch.
Other crafts categories that could see late-night winners include Production Design, Technical Direction and Camerawork, Picture Editing, Hair Styling, Lighting Design, Makeup, Music Direction, Original Music and Lyrics, and Sound Mixing.
The Creative Arts Emmys will be handed out over two consecutive nights on Saturday Sept 7 and Sunday Sept 8.
We’ll have to wait another week for the two big kahuna awards, Outstanding Talk Series and Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. The two exclusively late-night focused awards will be handed out the main Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, airing September 15th on ABC.
