CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was the top-rated late night TV show for the week of May 6, 2024.
Per Nielsen live-plus-three data, Colbert averaged 2,312,000 total viewers with 264,000 P18-49 viewers this past week. That’s +1% in total viewers and +11% in P18-49 viewers compared with the week prior (week of April 29). The Late Show‘s ratings are based off of four new episodes (Monday through Thursday) and a repeat (Friday). This was also the true for the week prior.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place at 11:35 p.m. last week.
Kimmel averaged 1,627,000 total viewers with 215,000 P18-49, per live-plus-three data, for the week of May 6, 2024. That’s -1% in total viewers, but +16% in P18-49 viewers from the week prior. Similar to The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! aired new episodes Monday through Thursday, and a repeat on Friday.
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,471,000 total viewers with 237,000 P18-49 viewers this past week, per live-plus-three data. Compared with the week prior, the program gained +5% in total viewers and shed just -0.4% in P18-49 viewers. Unlike its counterparts, Tonight Show aired new episodes on all five days last week (Monday-Friday).
Hitting fast-forward, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers took first place in the 12:35 a.m. timeslot this past week, both in total viewers and in P18-49. Per live-plus-three data, Late Night averaged 1,032,000 total viewers with 174,000 P18-49 for the week of May 6. That’s up +6% and +2%, respectively, from the week prior. Late Night aired new episodes on Monday through Thursday, and a repeat on Friday.
CBS’ After Midnight averaged 717,000 total viewers and 149,000 P18-49 viewers for the week of May 6, per live-plus-three data. That’s up +17% in total viewers and +39% in P18-49 viewers from the week prior. After Midnight aired new episodes on Monday through Thursday, and a repeat on Friday. The program was dark and aired exclusively rebroadcasts the week prior (week of April 29).
ABC’s Nightline averaged 857,000 total viewers with 131,000 P18-49 for the week of May 6, per live-plus-three data. That’s -1% in total viewers, but +7% in P18-49 viewers from the week prior. Nightline aired new episodes on all five days last week.
Lastly, on the week of May 6, The Daily Show was hosted by Jordan Klepper Monday through Wednesday, and Jon Stewart on Thursday. The schedule change hurt The Daily Show from a ratings perspective. The program averaged 917,000 total viewers and 163,000 P18-49 viewers, per live-plus-three data. That’s -4% in total viewers and -7% versus the most recent week of new episodes (week of April 22), when Stewart held court exclusively in his usual Monday slot.
