Late Night Ratings: Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert held strong at the top of the 11:35 p.m. ratings heap on Tuesday.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for May 7, 2024, The Late Show averaged 2,071,000 total viewers and 220,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s -6% in total viewers and -14% in P18-49 compared to the day before (Monday, May 6); up +3% but -4%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s episode (April 30, 2024). Tiffany Haddish, and Meredith Scardino were Colbert’s guests on May 7.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place at 11:35 p.m. in both key audience measurements— total viewers and P18-49—for the second consecutive day.

Kimmel averaged 1,671,000 total viewers with 216,000 P18-49 viewers on Tuesday. That’s up +6% in total viewers, but -10% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, up +8% and +49%, respectively, from the Tuesday before. Josh Brolin, and Nikki Glaser were Kimmel’s guests this past Tuesday. Sarah McLachlan performed.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon finished third at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, having averaged 1,120,000 total linear viewers and 187,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s -11% in total viewers and -14% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; -13% and -22%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s episode. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Luis Miranda, and Josh Charles were Fallon’s guests on Tuesday, May 7. Fontaines D.C. performed.

NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 704,000 total viewers and 141,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:36 a.m. Similar to its lead-in, Meyers saw double digit-percent audience losses on Tuesday, -22% in total viewers and -19% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; -15% and -22%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday. Joel Edgerton, Lily Gladstone, and Cole Escola were Meyers’ guests on Tuesday, May 6. Jay Weinberg sat in with the 8G Band.

CBS’ After Midnight struggled even more on Tuesday, having averaged 625,000 total viewers with just 97,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s -29% in total viewers and -53% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; -8%, and -2%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday episode, which was a repeat. Mike Birbiglia, Sydnee Washington, and Atsuko Okatsuka appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program on Tuesday, May 7.

ABC’s Nightline, on the other hand, had a strong ratings night. The half-hour news program averaged 914,000 total viewers and 163,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s a +8% improvement in total viewers and +11% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; +6% and +30%, respectively, versus the previous Tuesday.

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was guest-hosted by Jordan Klepper this past Tuesday, and the episode averaged 431,000 total viewers and 128,000 P18-49 viewers at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -25% in total viewers, but +41% in P18-49 viewers from the day before. Compared to the most recent Tuesday episode (April 23, 2024), Daily Show gained +16% in total viewers and +56% in P18-49 viewers. Lexi Freiman was Klepper’s guest on the May 7 Daily Show.
