Late Night Ratings: Monday, May 6, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Monday, May 6 proved to be a great night for late-night, as all of the shows gained viewers from the previous Monday.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert emerged at the top of the Monday ratings heap.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, The Late Show averaged 2,193,000 total viewers and 308,000 P18-49 viewers this past Monday. That’s up +11% in total viewers and 49% among P18-49 compared to the previous Monday (April 29). Ethan Hawke, and Cedric the Entertainer were Colbert’s guests this past Monday.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot this past Monday, averaging 1,572,000 total viewers with 239,000 P18-49 viewers at 11:35 p.m. That’s up +14% in total viewers, and +29% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday. Jon Stewart made a surprise appearance in a pre-taped segment. Luke Bryan, and Mike Birbiglia were Kimmel’s in-studio guests. Incubus performed.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon finished in third place in both measurements this past Monday, despite showing week-to-week gains. The program averaged 1,261,000 total linear viewers and 217,000 P18-48 viewers at 11:35 p.m. That’s up +13% in total viewers and +16% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday’s episode. Laura Linney, and Hannah Waddingham were Fallon’s guests on Monday. Broadway’s “Stereophonic” performed.

NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers and CBS’ After Midnight split first place in the 12:35 a.m. timeslot.

Off last week, After Midnight returned on Monday with a new episode. The program averaged 880,000 total viewers with 208,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m., the program’s largest live-plus-same-day audience in several months. After Midnight gained +49% in total viewers and +110% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday, which featured a repeat. Chris Redd, Catherine Cohen, Pat Regan appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program.

Late Night with Seth Meyers kicked off the week by averaging 903,000 total viewers and 174,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:36 a.m. That represents a +17% gain in total viewers, and a +32% gain in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday episode. John Oliver, and Mikey Day were Meyers’ guests on Monday. Jay Weinberg (son of Max Weinberg) sat in with the 8G Band.

ABC’s Nightline averaged 845,000 total viewers and 147,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That represents a +17% gain in total viewers and a +36% gain in P18-49 viewers from the Monday before.

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was guest-hosted by Jordan Klepper this past Monday (Jon Stewart was still in L.A. for the Netflix Is a Joke festival). Klepper’s May 6 episode averaged 571,000 total viewers and 91,000 P18-49 viewers at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -17% in total viewers, and -42% in P18-49 viewers from the most-recent Monday episode (hosted by Stewart on April 22). While down from Stewart’s Monday episode averages, the 571,000 is more than what Klepper typically draws during his mid-week guest host stints. The 91,000 P18-49 average, however, is pretty much on-par with his average in the measurement.

Jonathan Haidt was Klepper’s guest on Monday’s The Daily Show.
