Late Night Ratings: Tuesday, April 23, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

It’s a dark week for several late-night shows. That’s not the case for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and it’s taking advantage.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for Tuesday, April 23, Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged the most total viewers and P18-49 in its 11:35 p.m. timeslot, 1,927,000 and 202,000, respectively. That’s a big night for the broadcast. It’s +10% in total viewers and +32% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (Monday, April 22), +30% in total viewers and +7% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday (April 16). Kimmel was live this past Tuesday, and his guests were Wanda Sykes, and Gabriel Iglesias. ERNEST performed.

CBS aired The Late Show’s April 1, 2024 episode this past Tuesday at 11:35 p.m. The telecast averaged 1,334,000 total viewers and 175,000 P18-49. That’s -4% in total viewers and -15% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (also a repeat), -37% and -26%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday episode (a new one).

Similar to The Late Show, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers are dark this week, and repeats filled their respective timeslots.

The Tonight Show’s March 1, 2024 episode aired this past Tuesday at 11:35 p.m. It averaged 1,003,000 total viewers and 141,000 P18-49 viewers. That represents a -9% decline in total viewers, and a -13% decline in P18-49 viewers from the day before, up +6% but -1%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s episode (also a repeat).

NBC aired a repeat of Late Night with Seth Meyers’ March 27, 2024 episode this past Tuesday at 12:35 a.m. The telecast averaged only 575,000 total viewers and 85,000 P18-49 viewers. That represents a -17% decline in total viewers and -24% decline in P18-49 viewers from the day before, -4% in total viewers, and -7% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday’s episode, both of which were repeats.

CBS’ After Midnight, unlike its Late Show lead-in, was new on Tuesday. The April 23 episode averaged 575,000 total viewers, and 124,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s -7% in total viewers and -6% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, -17% in total viewers, but +2% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday episode. Drew Carey, Thomas Lennon, and “Weird Al” Yankovic appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program this past Tuesday, April 23.

ABC’s half-hour late night news program Nightline had a big night, averaging 984,000 total viewers and 126,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s +10% in total viewers, and +17% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, +37% in total viewers and +45% in P18-49 viewers from the Tuesday before.

Lastly, Ronny Chieng and Jordan Klepper co-hosted Comedy Central’s The Daily Show on Tuesday, and will continue to do so this week through Thursday. Their opening episode averaged only 370,000 total viewers and 82,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s -46% and -48%, respectively, from the day before (a Jon Stewart-led episode), but also -8% in total viewers, and -16% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday episode (hosted by Dulcé Sloan).
