Late Night Ratings: Tuesday, August 13, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Late-night’s 11:35 p.m. timeslot saw two winners for Tuesday, August 13: CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged the most total viewers, while NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged the most Adults 18-49.

The Late Show averaged 2,040,000 total viewers with 191,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data on Tuesday. That represents a -3% decline in total viewers, and a +5% gain among P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s first-run episode; +55% and +10%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s Late Show (a rebroadcast). Bowen Yang, and Nick Cave were Colbert’s appearances on the CBS program.

The Tonight Show, on the other hand, averaged 1,226,000 total viewers with 222,000 P18-49 on Tuesday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +7% and +17%, respectively, from the Monday’s episode; -13% and +9%, respectively, from the most recent Tuesday episode of The Tonight Show (July 23). The Tonight Show was preempted for the Olympics the past two weeks. Elizabeth Banks, and Stephen Nedoroscik made guest appearances on the August 13 episode, and Foster the People performed.

Jeff Goldblum guest-hosted ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the second consecutive night, and the Tuesday episode averaged 1,191,000 total viewers with 166,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +14% and +12%, respectively, from Monday’s episode; +14% and +14%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s telecast (a rebroadcast). John Cena, and Omar Sy made guest appearances on Tuesday’s Kimmel. Goldblum & the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra featuring Haley Reinhart performed on the program.

The August 13 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 764,000 total viewers with 136,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +1% and +26%, respectively, from the day before; +1% and +16%, respectively, from the most recent Tuesday telecast of Late Night (a rebroadcast on July 23). Meyers was preempted for Olympics programming the past two weeks, and aired reruns the week before. Mia Farrow, Patti LuPone, Myha’la, and Simon Rich were Meyers’ Late Night guests this past Tuesday. Todd Sucherman sat in with the 8G Band.

Following The Late Show, CBS’ After Midnight re-aired its June 13, 2024 episode, and it averaged 591,000 total viewers with 92,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -5% and -16%, respectively, from Monday’s telecast (also a rebroadcast); +17% and +1%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s telecast (another rebroadcast).

Following Kimmel, ABC News’ Nightline averaged 728,000 total viewers with 105,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +15% and +8%, respectively, from Monday’s episode; +8% and -6%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s episode.

Guest hosted by Desi Lydic, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show averaged 613,000 total viewers with 165,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +17% in total viewers, and +32% in P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s Daily Show (hosted by Jon Stewart); +3% and +22%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday Daily Show. Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas was Lydic’s Daily Show guest.
