Late Night Ratings: Monday, September 23, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

ABC’s late night offerings – Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Nightline – dominated their respective timeslots this past Monday thanks to a Monday Night Football lead-in. Not only did each show out-perform its broadcast competition, but each delivered week-to-week viewer gains as well.

The Sept. 23 edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 2,349,000 total live-plus-same-day viewers, making it the show’s second most-watched episode of the year to-date, and its most-watched since June 6. Along with the 2,349,000 total viewers, Monday’s Kimmel averaged 505,000 P18-49 — the fourth largest P18-49 audience of 2024 and largest since the June 14 episode. The Sept. 23 Kimmel gained +38% in total viewers and +160% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday’s episode. Halle Berry, and Mike Tyson made guest appearances on the program. Old Dominion performed.

Nightline benefited from a MNF ratings halo effect. Following Kimmel, the Sept. 23 Nightline averaged 1,309,000 total viewers with 296,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m. That’s up +76% in total viewers and a whopping +212% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode.

Featuring guests Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, and RuPaul, CBS’ Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged 1,879,000 total viewers with 173,000 P18-49 this past Monday. That’s up +71% in total viewers and +19% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday’s telecast (a repeat).

Elsewhere at 11:35 p.m., NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,286,000 total viewers with 214,000 P18-49 this past Monday. That’s up +6% in total viewers but -11% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Fallon welcomed Michael Strahan, and Sebastian Maniscalco to the program. Leon Bridges performed.

Following Fallon, the Monday, Sept. 23 edition of Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 894,000 total viewers with 132,000 P18-49. That’s up +38% in total viewers, but -3% among P18-49 from the previous Monday telecast (a repeat). Meyers welcomed Michael Bublé and Leanne Morgan to the program

Following Colbert, After Midnight’s Sept. 23 broadcast (featuring guest panelists Lauren Lapkus, Paul F. Tompkins, and Rachel Pegram) averaged 560,000 total viewers with 98,000 P18-49. That’s up +13% in total viewers and +44% among P18-49 from the previous Monday for the Taylor Tomlinson-led program.

 Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show anchor chair this past Monday after a week off, and the program went on to average 681,000 total viewers with 114,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m. That’s up +21% in total viewers, but -7% among P18-49 from the most-recent Monday Daily Show (Sept. 9, hosted by Jordan Klepper). European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde was Stewart’s guest on Monday, Sept. 23.
