All is right again in the late-night world. After a short break, Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show desk tonight.
Stewart took last week off as the show went dark on Monday, allowing “The Best F#@king News Team Ever” an extra day to travel back to New York from Los Angeles following this year’s Emmy Awards. It was a well-deserved respite, as The Daily Show took home the trophy for Outstanding Talk Series for the second year in a row. Ronny Chieng helmed the desk for all of last week’s new episodes.
Tonight, Stewart will kick things off by chatting with Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank. Lagarde made headlines late last week following her speech at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where she warned that the modern global economy was facing pressures similar to the 1920s.
Desi Lydic will take over as The Daily Show host tomorrow through Thursday. On Tuesday, she’ll sit down with Aubrey Plaza to talk about her role in Francis Ford Coppola’s long-gestating science fiction film Megalopolis, which arrives in theaters on September 27. Plaza also currently stars in Agatha All Along alongside Kathryn Hahn and Joe Locke.
On Wednesday, Lydic will sit down with singer/songwriter Raye, who recently released a new album, Live at Montreux Jazz Festival.
Lydic will close out the week on Thursday with an interview with filmmaker Susanna Fogel, who directed the black comedy drama Winner. The film is based on the life of Reality Winner (yes, that is her real name), who leaked an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections and ended up sentenced to more than five years in prison. (Sydney Sweeney played Winner in Tina Satter’s 2023 dramatic thriller Reality). Fogel also directed the 2018 action-comedy flick The Spy Who Dumped Me, which starred Kate McKinnon and Hasan Minhaj.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m, ET/PT on Comedy Central, and is available to stream next day on Paramount+
