Late Night Ratings: Monday, September 9, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! split first place on late-night this past Monday, September 9. Colbert averaged the largest total audience, while Kimmel, propelled by a ABC Monday Night Football lead-in, delivered the most Adults 18-49 at 11:35 p.m.

Colbert kicked off the week of September 9 by averaging 1,951,000 total viewers with 235,000 P18-49 viewers for a new episode featuring guests _. That’s +41% in total viewers and +60% in P18-49 viewers, week-over-week (a repeat on Labor Day Monday). Jim Parsons, and Natasha Rothwell were Colbert’s Monday, Sept. 9 guests.

Kimmel, on the other hand, didn’t open until 11:49 p.m. ET due to his MNF lead-in. His Sept. 9 episode went on to average 1,936,000 total viewers with 377,000 P18-49. That’s +134% and +289%, respectively, from the week-ago repeat telecast. Kimmel welcomed guests Keegan-Michael Key, and Grace Van Patten to the program this past Monday. Khalid performed.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon took third place at 11:35 p.m. in both of the aforementioned measurements on Monday. Fallon averaged 1,066,000 total viewers with 153,000 P18-49. That’s +29% and +38%, respectively, from the week-ago repeat telecast. Fallon’s Monday, Sept. 9 episode featured guests Demi Moore, and Eve Hewson. St. Vincent performed.

ABC News’ Nightline captured first place at 12:35 a.m., both in total viewers (1,175,000) and among P18-49 (233,000). The Sept. 9 Nightline (which actually started at 12:51 a.m. ET), gained +120% in total viewers and +276% in P18-49 viewers week-over-week.

Late Night with Seth Meyers and After Midnight split second place at 12:35 a.m. Monday, with Meyers drawing more total viewers (722,000), and After Midnight averaging more viewers aged 18-49 (99,000). Overall, After Midnight averaged 611,000 total viewers with 126,000 P18-49 in the time slot, +29% and +68%, respectively, from the week-ago telecast. Meyers, on the other hand, averaged 722,000 total viewers with 99,000 P18-49, +32% and +39%, respectively, from a week ago. Meyers welcomed guests Kacey Musgraves, Sue Bird, and Megan Rapinoe to his program, while After Midnight welcomed guest panelists Skylar Astin, Wayne Brady, and Mary Holland.

The Daily Show returned to Comedy Central after multiple weeks on hiatus. The Monday, Sept. 9 episode, hosted by Jordan Klepper, averaged 564,000 total viewers with 122,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m. That’s +26% and +21%, respectively, from the most-recent Monday Daily Show (August 19). Yuval Noah Harari was Klepper’s guest.
