CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert kicked off the week with the most total viewers in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot, while Comedy Central’s The Daily Show saw the most audience growth of any late-night show.
Jon Stewart welcomed Minnesota Gov. and VP candidate Tim Walz to The Daily Show this past Monday, with the episode delivering a live-plus-same-day audience of 838,000 total viewers and 156,000 viewers aged 18-49. That’s up +34% in total viewers and +164% in P18-49 from the most recent Monday Daily Show (Oct. 7). In fact, Stewart’s sit-down with Gov. Walz attracted The Daily Show’s largest live-plus-same-day audience since Sept. 10 (the live, post-presidential debate episode) and is the 8th most-watched episode of the year to-date.
Featuring guests Brian Cox, and Yulia Navalnaya, the Monday, Oct. 21 Late Show averaged a timeslot-high 2,133,000 total viewers with 261,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s down -5% in total viewers and -1% in P18-49 from the previous Monday episode (Oct. 14).
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon returned with a new episode on Monday after a dark week. Featuring guests Samuel L. Jackson, and Justin Hartley, with musical guest Tommy Richman, the Oct. 21 Tonight Show averaged 1,161,000 total viewers with 175,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. That’s up +18% in total viewers and +58% in P18-49 from the previous Monday telecast (a repeat).
Jimmy Kimmel Live! , on the other hand, is dark this week, and ABC re-aired the show’s Oct. 1, 2024 episode beginning at 12:02 a.m., after Monday Night Football. The telecast went on to average 1,456,000 total viewers with 270,000 P18-49. That’s down -17% in total viewers and -9% among P18-49 from the previous Monday (a new episode). Lady Gaga and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) were Kimmel’s guests on that Oct. 1 episode.
Similar to The Tonight Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers was dark last week, and returned with a new episode this past Monday. Featuring guests Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Juno Temple, the Monday, Oct. 21 episode averaged 885,000 total viewers with 141,000 P18-49. That’s up +23% in total viewers and +57% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s telecast (a repeat).
Airing after The Late Show, After Midnight averaged 590,000 total viewers with 138,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s down -12% in total viewers but up +10% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode. Nicole Byer, Matteo Lane, and Sasheer Zamata all appeared on the program.
Following Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Nightline averaged 883,000 total viewers with 173,000 P18-49 beginning at 1:04 a.m. That’s down -6% in total viewers and -12% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s episode.
