CBS’ late-night programs The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and After Midnight are dark and airing repeats this week, theoretically providing a path for their timeslot counterparts gain viewers, beginning on Monday, October 7. However, Colbert still managed to win 11:35 p.m. when it came to Adults 18-49, while ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! delivered the most total viewers in the timeslot.
CBS re-aired The Late Show‘s Oct. 3, 2024 episode on Monday (featuring guests Chris Wallace, Yotam Ottolenghi, and Justin Hartley), and the broadcast averaged 1,401,000 total viewers with a timeslot-high 200,000 P18-49. That’s down -28% in total viewers, but actually up +1% in P18-49 from the previous Monday’s Late Show (a new episode).
Without the luxury of Monday Night Football lead-in on ABC to provide a lift, Jimmy Kimmel Live! saw a week-to-week ratings decline on Oct. 7. However, the episode still faired pretty well, benefiting from an appearance by Minnesota Gov. and VP candidate Tim Walz. It averaged a timeslot-high 2,001,000 total viewers with 195,000 P18-49. That’s -12% and -65%, respectively, from the Monday prior (which had that MNF boost).
Elsewhere, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,296,000 total viewers with 194,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7. That’s up +14% in total viewers and +11% among P18-49 from the Monday prior. Hoda Kotb, Henrik Lundqvist, and Gabriel LaBelle were Fallon’s guests this past Monday. Vampire Weekend performed.
Without that ABC Monday Night Football ratings halo effect, Nightline saw substantial week-to-week declines across measurements this past Monday. The Monday, Oct. 7 broadcast still averaged a timeslot-high 864,000 total viewers along with 107,000 P18-49. That’s -33% and -66%, respectively, from the previous Monday’s Nightline.
Following Fallon, the Monday, Oct. 7 edition of Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 815,000 total viewers with a timeslot-high 133,000 P18-49. That’s -2% in total viewers, and -3% among P18-49 from the previous Monday episode. Meyers welcomed Andrew Garfield, and Cristin Milioti to the program.
Following the Colbert repeat, CBS re-aired After Midnight’s Sept. 5 episode (featuring guest panelists Jordan Temple, Will Miles, and Suzi Barrett) and it averaged 508,000 total viewers with 125,000 P18-49. That’s -5% in total viewers but up +62% among P18-49 from the previous Monday’s new episode.
Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show anchor chair this past Monday, Oct. 7, and the program went on to average 628,000 total viewers with only 59,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m. That’s flat in total viewers, but down -36% among P18-49 from the previous Stewart-led Monday Daily Show (Sept. 30). PolitiFact founder Bill Adair was Stewart’s guest on the program.
