Jimmy Kimmel might be on vacation, but his latest guest host is continuing his legacy of getting under Donald Trump’s skin.
Freshly Emmy-nominated Fargo star Lamorne Morris is the fill-in host on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for most of this week (save for Wednesday, when Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman unleash an MCU takeover), but it only took a single monologue for Morris to get a comment from Team Trump—albeit a solicited one.
Morris’ Monday night monologue came on the heels of Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and VP Kamala Harris (who sat down for an interview with Kimmel just last month) becoming the presumptive nominee.
“Trump is very worried because Kamala is a lawyer,” Morris said. “I mean, he’s only lost to Joe Biden once. But he loses to lawyers, like, twice a week.”
As Morris recapped in Tuesday night’s monologue, Newsweek reported on his jokes and reached out to Trump’s camp for comment. A Trump spokesperson replied by email: “Who is Lamont Morris?”
“I thought that was pretty funny,” Morris told viewers—though he appreciates the benefits of the Trump campaign getting his name wrong.
“I don’t know who ‘Lamont’ Morris is,” he said on Tuesday, “but if you think he’s the dude telling all these Trump jokes, then… let’s go with that. I don’t need the smoke.”
Notably, Morris didn’t just reserve his jokes for Trump on Monday night. He made sure to skewer Biden as well. “Yesterday, President Biden decided to drop out of the race,” Morris told viewers. “Well he didn’t drop out so much as he kind of just wandered off.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! has become something of a touchy subject for Trump. The vacationing Kimmel famously has a track record of provoking Trump, from his nightly monologues to the Oscars. Jimmy Kimmel Live! even got a mention in court during Trump’s hush money trial on two occasions.
