An overly eager family could easily get confused over the abundance of late-night Jimmys.
The night after Jimmy Fallon’s Holiday Seasoning Spectacular drew mixed reactions online, a faux family decked out in matching holiday pajamas interrupted Jimmy Kimmel‘s monologue Thursday night from the audience.
The family, with a father played by comedian Kurt Braunohler, apologized for being so into the Christmas spirit. Kimmel had a sudden epiphany about the foursome, but before he could even finish his sentence, they confirmed—in unison—that they’re one of those “annoying matching pajama families.”
When the family’s mom echoed their love for Christmas, Braunohler chided her: “Sugarplum, please. Mr. Fallon is trying to talk to me right now.”
Kimmel fired back, noting that they were confused and he’s not Jimmy Fallon. Braunohler said that doesn’t matter to them, but his lovely bride didn’t seem overly enthused about being stuck the other Jimmy.
The overly excited fam shared their love for basic-with-a-capital-B Christmas fare, including car antlers and hiding their Elf on a Shelf. Braunohler pleaded with Kimmel to show their TikTok dance, which he noted he’d passed along to the show’s control room.
Said TikTok clip started playing despite Kimmel’s protests, but he finally cut it off, adding “There’s no choreographed TikTok dances on this show.”
Cut to: The family breaking out their TikTok dance live on stage. A real family doing such a dance could seem more at home on Fallon’s Tonight Show amidst his annual ugly sweater releases, celebrity games, and holiday album promotion, or at least on that Holiday Seasoning special.
It could also have been inspired by Fallon embracing matching pajamas with his P’Jimmies release this year—including a People photo shoot with his own family rocking a matching set.
The Annoying Family sketch escalates with the parents telling the kids to go back to one after not landing their dance moves properly, getting angry at their lack of coordination. One of the kids responds, “I don’t even believe in Jesus,” which drew one of the more shocked responses you’ll hear from a late-night audience.
Kimmel called in sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez to calm the situation, to which Braunohler referenced another Jimmy—well, James. “Mr. Corden‘s going to kick us out of here if we can’t get this right,” he tells his family, referencing the last host of the Late Late Show (since replaced by After Midnight with host Taylor Tomlinson).
