For the second night in a row, Jimmy Kimmel Live! recruited one of 2024’s viral video all-stars to take part in a comedy piece—finally giving one of the show’s longest-running characters the love interest he deserves.
Kimmel cast Haliey Welch, the internet celebrity better known as “Hawk Tuah Girl,” in a movie trailer parody that aired at the tail end of his monologue on Wednesday night. The fictional movie, Happy Chanuk-Tuah to You-Ah, casts Welch as the love interest for a longtime JKL holiday character: the Chanucorn.
For those unfamiliar, the Chanucorn is a unicorn character with a menorah on its head, created and portrayed by JKL writer Gary Greenberg in 2014. Greenberg’s Chanucorn has returned to the show every year since, much to Kimmel’s supposed chagrin.
Kimmel had been using his monologue to riff on the lack of holiday movies celebrating Hanukkah, opening the door to the Chanucorn’s annual interruption.
“There are more Christmas movies starring dogs than there are Chanukah movies starring people,” Kimmel (accurately) pointed out. “There are more ways to spell ‘Hanukkah’ than there are movies about Hanukkah!” (True that, too: “Chanukah” is the traditional spelling, while “Hanukkah” is more common in the U.S. And there are many other variations.)
Enter the Chanucorn, who reveals to Kimmel that he’s premiering a new holiday film on the streaming platform of the “Challmark Channel,” “Challmark Plotz.” He then rolls the trailer, revealing a heartwarming story about the Chanucorn running a matzo ball shop and meeting a girl from the big city.
That’s where Welch comes in, threatening to shut down the Chanucorn’s store—before their repartee sparks a whirlwind romance.
Welch went viral for her euphemistic answer about sexual technique during a person-on-the-street interview earlier this year. She’s since cashed in on her 15 minutes (and counting) of fame.
She launched her own podcast, Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch, which stormed up the charts and has remained surprisingly popular. As Kimmel referenced in his monologue, Welch also launched a crypto memecoin, $HAWK, that quickly crashed.
Kimmel called out her shady crypto venture as he berated Gary about his surprise casting of the Hawk Tuah Girl. You can watch the full sketch in the video above.
