Say this for George Clooney: he makes good on his TV booking commitments. After cancelling a planned visit earlier this month, Clooney is set to finally make his first-ever appearance on NBC’s Late Night franchise.
The actor, who is currently playing Edward R. Murrow in the stage adaptation of his 2005 film Good Night and Good Luck, will use his night off from Broadway to visit Late Night with Seth Meyers next week.
Despite doing a ton of time on the talk show circuit over his over-thirty-year career, Clooney never once paid a visit to Late Night under the tenures of Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon, or Seth Meyers. That will finally change when he sits down with Seth Meyers on Monday, June 2nd.
Clooney, who is fresh off a Tony nomination for his performance as Murrow, was initially booked for Meyers’ Monday, May 5th episode. That appearance was later cancelled without explanation, with Clooney’s spot filled by Last Week Tonight host John Oliver.
Since then, the star’s name has come up in one of the revelations brought forth by the new book from Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, which reports that President Biden did not immediately recognize Clooney at a June 2024 fundraiser he hosted.
Clooney’s guest spot on Late Night will come just days ahead of a live airing of Good Night and Good Luck on CNN. The news network will broadcast the production live on all CNN platforms on Saturday, June 7. Good Night and Good Luck is set to close on Broadway the next night.
Monday’s Late Night with Seth Meyers is shaping up to to be an all-out Broadway affair. In addition to Clooney, Meyers will welcome Jennifer Simard and Christopher Sieber, both of whom currently star in another film-turned-Broadway show, Death Becomes Her.
