Frisbee’s Greatest Hits: Seth Meyers’ Dog Was a Late Night Star

Longtime viewers of Late Night with Seth Meyers were saddened to learn Tuesday that Seth Meyers‘ beloved dog Frisbee has passed away. Thankfully, the Italian greyhound left behind countless memorable moments to look back on with fondness. A fixture on Meyers’ late-night show since its earliest days, here are eight of our favorite Frisbee moments.

Extreme Dog Shaming

Frisbee Meyers made her television debut just two weeks into Meyers’ tenure on Late Night, in the first of many appearances on the recurring segment “Extreme Dog Shaming.” After a series of photos showing dogs shamed for mischievous deeds, the segment always ended with Frisbee flipping the script by shaming Seth. Her first jab at her owner: “I go to bed after Fallon.” Here’s another classic example from Frisbee’s appearances in the segment:

Frisbee’s Westminster Moment

In 2015, Seth Meyers welcomed Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show host David Frei, and took the opportunity to put Frisbee to the test. Meyers and wife Alexi Ashe brought her out to compete against Champion Italian greyhound Cora. Frisbee may not have aced the agility demonstration, but she did manage to do what her competitor couldn’t: sit. And she didn’t leave without praise from Frei.

“The real best-in-show dog is the dog that’s sitting next to you at home on the couch anyway,” Frei told Meyers. “We’ll give her a Best In Show, too.”

Frisbee’s Pilgrim Costume

As a cherished member of the Meyers family, it only made sense that Frisbee would play a role in one of Late Night’s Thanksgiving traditions. Each year, after hosting his parents and brother as guests, Seth debuts a video featuring his children dressed as turkeys alongside Frisbee as a pilgrim.

Andy Samberg’s Frisbee Roasts

No Frisbee tribute would be complete without Andy Samberg, Meyers’ close friend and former Saturday Night Live colleague, who made despise of the dog a running gag. While Samberg insisted repeatedly that his disdain was genuine, it provided many comedic moments—thanks largely to Meyers leaning into the rivalry. Among the highlights: Samberg using a Late Night interview to debut an anti-Frisbee segment called “A Grosser Look.”

Frisbee Gets Read by Psychics

Curious about what was going on in Frisbee’s mind, Meyers enlisted a trio of dog psychics. As they cozied up to Frisbee, Seth asked them to channel her thoughts on international conflicts, the outfits she was made to wear, and a series of inkblots. He also learned that he and Frisbee had crossed paths as humans in a past life—possibly even as romantic partners.

Holland Taylor Fangirls Over Frisbee

Andy Samberg may not have admired Frisbee, but other celebrities certainly did. Actress Holland Taylor was especially smitten. She recorded a video of Frisbee greeting her during a surprise airport encounter, then brought the clip to a Covid-era remote interview on Late Night. Taylor gushed that she and partner Sarah Paulson often scrolled Frisbee’s Instagram for comfort. “She’s so darling. She’s the most delicious dog,” Taylor raved.

Frisbee Gets a Gift from Glenn Close

Even when she wasn’t present, Frisbee was often a topic of conversation. During a 2017 appearance, Glenn Close—who lives in the same building as Meyers—revealed that she regularly gave Frisbee hand-me-downs from her own dog. On that night, she came prepared with a brand-new gift: Donald Trump dog poop bags.

Ellie Kemper Reacts to a Photo of Frisbee

Not all of Frisbee’s famous neighbors were fans. Actress Ellie Kemper admitted during a Late Night interview that she had her doubts. “Frisbee isn’t what I think of when I think of a dog,” she said before demonstrating her typical reaction to seeing a picture of the greyhound.

Bonus: Frisbee’s Acting Debut

While she’s best known for her Late Night cameos, Frisbee also had a star turn on Mindy Kaling’s Hulu series The Mindy Project. In the Season 4 episode “Will They or Won’t They,” she becomes the victim of a teen prank called “leashing,” where kids cut the leashes of pets so they run free. Frisbee disappears for two days before Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) finds her safe—though not before the city dons grey ribbons and holds a candlelight vigil in her honor.

“We were longtime fans of Frisbee Meyers, Seth’s rescue greyhound. The only way Frisbee would do the show was if we wrote a part for Seth,” Mindy Kaling told Entertainment Weekly at the time, calling Frisbee a “consummate professional.”
