David Letterman’s next project needs no introduction. The late-night legend is set to host two more seasons of his Netflix talk show.
The streamer announced today that it has ordered Seasons 6 and 7 of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, .
My Next Guest has been a consistent source of Emmy nominations for Netflix. Getting six nods since its debut, the series has garnered the streamer (and John Mulaney’s dad, sort of) one win.
One significant question mark in the renewal news is how many episodes Letterman will deliver per season. Today’s announcement does not specify, and the number of episodes in past seasons has varied wildly.
My Next Guest launched with a six-episode Season 1 in 2018. Seasons 2 through 4 then saw orders of 5, 4, and 6 episodes, respectively through 2022. A smattering of one-off specials were added between those seasons.
The show then went dormant for all of 2023. It returned in April 2024 for one special with Letterman and John Mulaney. That was separate from its official fifth season, which dropped less than two months later with two episodes (with guests Miley Cyrus and Charles Barkley).
In April 2025, My Next Guest put out a new episode with Caitlin Clark that was classified as a Season 5 episode.
Guests for the upcoming sixth and seventh seasons of the show have not been announced. (Letterman did interview Paul Shaffer in a similar long-form format earlier this year, though it’s unclear if Netflix cameras captured that event.)
Season 6 of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction is expected to bow later this year on Netflix.
We need way more Letterman.
