David Letterman is going back to his Indiana roots for his next episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.
The latest episode of the Netflix talk series will feature basketball star Caitlin Clark, and is set for release next month. Clark—the first female athlete to be featured on the show—is shown in a trailer reflecting on her competitive drive—a trait that led her to learn how to dribble, but also affected her trick-or-treating experience on Halloween.
“So you’re still like that?” Letterman asks Clark.
“Well, I don’t trick or treat anymore,” she replies, getting a hearty laugh out of Letterman.
Clark sat with Letterman for the conversation at his alma mater, Indiana’s Ball State University, last November. (The event was part of the school’s long-running David Letterman Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series.)
As we’ve previously reported, beyond their appearance together on stage, Letterman and Clark were also spotted filming around Indianapolis, including a stop at the legendary Long’s Bakery.
Clark joined the Indiana Fever last May after a historic NCAA run with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Letterman has attended Fever games and was photographed with Clark months after. He was also spotted last month at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to witness Clark’s jersey retirement.
Clark will serve as the third guest of My Next Guest…’s fifth season. Season 5 has already featured Miley Cyrus and Charles Barkley, though adhering to “seasons” is all but a formality for the show at this point. The show has not adhered to much of a release pattern since Season 4 wrapped in 2022. Since then, sit-downs with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and John Mulaney were billed as specials, and Season 5 launched with Cyrus and Barkley’s episodes released as a pair back in June 2024. Clark’s episode will be the first new installment since then.
Letterman also has an upcoming conversation with Paul Shaffer in New York City next month. So far, no plans to make that a future episode of My Next Guest… have been announced.
The 2024 special with John Mulaney netted the program (and Mulaney’s father, sort of) its first Emmy Award after six nominations.
Caitlin Clark’s episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction streams on Netflix on April 8.
