Craig Ferguson fans rejoice: The former Late Late Show host is returning to TV screens, albeit as a game show host.
Ferguson has signed on to host the second season of Scrabble for The CW, Deadline reports. Ferguson will take over hosting duties from the game show revival’s inaugural host, Raven-Symoné, who will remain on board as an executive producer.
An adaptation of the popular Hasbro- and Mattel-owned board game of the same name, Scrabble first aired on NBC on 1984-1990 with host Chuck Woolery. NBC briefly brought the show back in 1993. The CW’s revival premiered in the fall of 2024 and was given a 12-episode order.
This time around, The CW has picked up Scrabble for 30 episodes, eying a 2026 return.
Since departing The Late Late Show in 2014 after a nearly ten-year run, Ferguson has emceed three game shows. From 2014-2017, he emceed all three seasons of the syndicated series Celebrity Name Game. In 2016, he hosted Join or Die, a game/panel show he created that was given a 22-episode run on History.
Most recently, he hosted The Hustler for ABC, which was cancelled after two seasons in 2021. He has also released four standup special since then, including last year’s I’m So Happy.
Scrabble’s showrunner is David Hurwitz, whose credits also include the 2021-2023 run of You Bet Your Life—another game show rival led by a former late-night host (and Fergison’s frequent standup co-headliner), Jay Leno. (In that case, Leno also executive produced the show.)
“I’m cock-a-hoop to be hosting Scrabble,” said Ferguson. “I’ve wanted to do this show ever since I found out the letters of my name can be used to spell Cougar Fingers.”
