Conan O’Brien’s latest international itinerary finally has a departure date.
Season 3 of Conan O’Brien Must Go will premiere Friday, August 21, on HBO Max.
The season will consist of four episodes, with new installments debuting weekly through September 11. The premiere will follow the late-night legend on his long-awaited trip to India, a destination he had been trying to bring to the screen since his Conan Without Borders days.
The snag dated back to a 2004 Late Night with Conan O’Brien remote in which writer Andy Blitz flew to India after learning that NBC’s IT help desk was located there. When O’Brien’s team later attempted to arrange another shoot in the country, producers learned that the earlier segment had been filmed without the proper permits.
O’Brien finally made it back to India last November.
The other three episodes will document O’Brien’s visits to the Philippines, the Netherlands, and Morocco.
Production began in the Philippines last October, where O’Brien reportedly reunited with podcast listener Mustafa, an aspiring action star who helped him land a guest role on the daily police drama Sanggang-Dikit FR. O’Brien played a medallion-stealing villain who proclaimed himself invincible shortly before being flipped onto a table and arrested.
O’Brien surfaced in the Netherlands in April, arriving in time for Amsterdam’s King’s Day celebration and attempting to become a male model with help from a six-foot-tall listener named Maaike. The results were apparently less than runway-ready.
“I showed up, I met with her, and she told me at the end, ‘This isn’t going to work,’” O’Brien later said. “She was very disappointed in me.”
The season’s final shoot took place in Morocco in June, with longtime assistant Sona Movsesian joining O’Brien for the trip. The pair were photographed riding camels, while longtime Conan writer José Arroyo reported that filming took the crew to Casablanca, Marrakesh, and “sandy points east.”
Conan O’Brien Must Go has quietly become one of HBO Max’s prestige success stories. Its first two seasons earned four Emmy nominations and two wins: Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program in 2024 and Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special in 2025.
There’s no word yet on whether the series will return for a fourth season. O’Brien already has a full dance card: in addition to the travel show, he continues to oversee his Team Coco podcast empire and take on occasional film roles, including a prominent voice role as the potty-training toy Smarty Pants in this summer’s Toy Story 5.
He’s also set to host the Oscars for a third consecutive year when the ceremony returns March 14, 2027.
