Mark your calendars: Colin Jost and Michael Che’s live Peacock special is officially on the books.
The event will air live on the streamer next week, with the two Saturday Night Live stars emceeing a night of standup comedy comprised entirely of drop-ins. Or, as the official trailer describes it: “Some kind of live comedy thing.”
Che first announced the special several weeks ago, telling his Instagram followers, “We’re hosting a live standup show on Peacock 9/12. We are not getting paid. Just wanted to do it.”
As Che teased during his first test episode of Don’t Sleep with Michael Che last week, the pair will host a lineup of comedians for the event. According to an NBC press release, that lineup will include “both up-and-coming and established comics in New York,” including the pair’s favorite local club comics and “maybe even some names you already know and love.” The event will also feature Grammy Award-winning musicians 1500 or Nothin’ as their house band.
It will all be streamed live from The Bell House in Brooklyn. While there will be an in-person audience, ticket information has not yet been shared. (Che previously told the Don’t Sleep audience to expect a ticket link this week.)
New York After Dark marks the first live comedy special for Peacock, as well as the first project for Jost’s No Notes Productions and Che’s 7F Project banners. The live special will air a day after NBC puts Seth Meyer in primetime for a live “A Closer Look” special.
While the duo is expected to return to SNL for its 50th season later this month, they’ve been keeping plenty busy in the off-season. In addition to Che’s new late-night project and Jost surviving his injury-plagued stint as a surfing correspondent at the Summer Olympics, both comedians have been performing live standup shows, including a shared event on August 24 at Denver’s Bellco Theater.
Colin Jost and Michael Che Present: New York After Dark streams on Peacock on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
