We thought that Michael Che might be up to his old tricks again. On Wednesday morning, we reported that he was using social media to hint that he and his accident-prone “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost might be prepping a live show for Peacock. Apparently, it’s true.
“Me and Jost doing a live show on Peacock,” Che wrote on his Instagram Story on Tuesday. “It’s gonna be nuts. That’s what we should call it, but nobody listens to me.”
On Wednesday, Che was on Instagram again, this time with an actual post, where he shared a photo of he and Jost with an announcement: “We’re hosting a live standup show on Peacock 9/12. We are not getting paid. Just wanted to do it.”
Che has often taken to his Instagram to share news in the past, though some posts are more cryptic than others. Initially, it was unclear exactly what a “live show” could mean (especially as “Weekend Update” itself is sort of a live Peacock show, as Saturday Night Live streams live on the service).
Che and Jost have co-headlined standup shows in the past, and already have one upcoming show on their schedule on August 24 at Denver’s Bellco Theatre. The details of the Peacock stint aren’t yet known.
NBC and Peacock seem to be leaning into live comedy. On Tuesday, the network announced that Seth Meyers will lead a live primetime “A Closer Look” special on September 11 to cover the previous day’s debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
As is often the case with Che’s social media posts, it’s likely only a matter of time before he leaks a few more (possibly cryptic) details.
