SNL Taps Chris Rock and Martin Short As Final 2024 Hosts

Saturday Night Live announced its final hosts of 2024 on Monday: Chris Rock, confirming our earlier report, and Martin Short. They’ll be joined by musical guests Gracie Abrams and Hozier.

Rock and Abrams will lead SNL on Dec. 14, while Short will host the show’s traditional Christmas episode with Hozier performing on Dec. 21. Rock’s most recent project is narrating the animated Everybody Still Hates Chris on Comedy Central, a revival of his earlier autobiographical live-action series that aired on UPN and the CW.

This is Rock’s fourth time hosting, following his run in the cast from 1990-93. He wasn’t seen as a breakout performer at the time, but blew up as a stand-up and actor in the years since. He last hosted during the early months of the pandemic, topping an October 2020 episode.

Short previously co-hosted the show with his Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin two years ago during Season 48, which was also that year’s Christmas episode. This will mark his third stint as an individual host, fifth overall—he also teamed with Martin and Chevy Chase while promoting Three Amigos in 1986.

Hozier was previously the musical guest a decade ago during Season 40, paired with host Bill Hader. Abrams is a first-timer.

Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) was previously announced hosting this Saturday with musical guest Shaboozey. The hip-hop country artist is known for his hit track “A Bar Song (Tip-sy),” which recently tied Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” record on top of the Billboard Hot 100.

SNL heads on holiday hiatus following the Dec. 21 episode before returning in 2025 with what NBC promises will include “more Season 50 surprises and celebrations.” SNL‘s 50th anniversary special airs Sunday, Feb. 16.
