Six weeks after her unexpected dismissal from Saturday Night Live, Chloe Troast is speaking out.
While accepting a 2024 Club Cosmo Award in New York Thursday, Troast called SNL her “dream job,” but allowed that now she has “a lot of time to dream new dreams.”
The 27 year-old former featured player was introduced at the event by fellow former SNLer Molly Kearney, who also left the legendary sketch show over the summer.
Taking the stage, Troast immediately addressed the elephant in the room. “About a month ago, I found out I wouldn’t be returning to my dream job on Saturday Night Live. Very Gen Z of me to get fired.”
“I felt broken,” she recalled. But she credited Kearney with helping her take the first steps toward healing. “Who better than my ex-dressing room roommate to call me, get me out of bed, and help me see the forest through the trees. Literally, they helped me get out of the city and I spent a month in nature. Touched grass. Gained some perspective. SNL was my dream, and now I have a lot of time to dream new dreams.”
Kearney offered their own take on Troast’s abbreviated stint at the show, telling the crowd, “I think SNL was just opening the door for other people to know who she was and is.”
Troast’s was one of the more surprising SNL cuts in recent memory. The sole addition to the cast for its 49th season, she appeared to quickly find her groove on the show, breaking out just a month into her run when she conceived and starred in “Little Orphan Cassidy,” a sketch that saw her sing a duet with the moon (played by Timothee Chalamet).
Troast was one of 36 honorees at the inaugural Club Cosmo Awards, a new initiative from Cosmopolitan magazine, UTA Next Gen, and ZCON honoring Gen Z-focused trends, brands, and creators that have gained the respect and attention of the digital-native generation
As we reported earlier this week, Troast can currently be seen on the big screen in Michael Keaton’s new film, Goodrich. Kearney’s post SNL-future is also looking bright. They recently signed on to star in a new CBS single-camera comedy pilot titled DMV.
I was very sorry to see her go – I think she’s a huge talent and should’ve been given more time to find her niche on the show. Such a powerhouse singer! I know she’ll go far – maybe a lot farther than she would have if she had stayed on SNL. The very best of luck to her.
