Molly Kearney’s days at 30 Rock may be over, but their comedy career continues to grow. Deadline reports that Kearney, who recently departed SNL after two seasons, has been tapped to star in CBS’s single-camera comedy pilot DMV.
Per the show’s logline, DMV centers on a group of “quirky and loveable” employees who work at the DMV earning minimum wage and “doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door”—fortunately, they also have each other to lean on.
Kearney will play Barbara, the boss of the DMV branch “who considers herself one of the gang, even though ‘the gang’ does not.” Barbara is described as a “glass-half-full, over-sharer who is incredibly inappropriate and terrible at reading a room,” but also “cares deeply and tries very hard.”
Kearney is joined on the CBS project by fellow SNL alum Tim Meadows, who was a cast member for 10 seasons from 1991 to 2000. Meadows will play Gregg, a former high school teacher-turned-examiner described as “sardonic, defeated and would love nothing more than to retire.”
Trent O’Donnell, best known for his work on Ghosts, will direct and executive produce the show’s pilot. Co-executive producer Dana Klein (The Real World, Bad Girls Club) penned the script, which is based on a short story by author Katherine Heiny.
Kearney, who joined SNL as a featured player in 2022 for season 48, was the show’s first nonbinary cast member. They announced their departure via a heartfelt Instagram post in August, calling their time on the series “a dream come true.”
Outside of SNL, Kearney has also appeared in Prime Video’s comedy series A League of Their Own, the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and the Paramount+ film Good Burger 2.
