BTS Star J-Hope to Make Solo Debut on Fallon’s Tonight Show

Just in case there was any doubt which late-night show is the preferred showcase for BTS, Jimmy Fallon is set to welcome yet another a member of the Korean boy band sensation for his solo debut.

J-Hope will appear on The Tonight Show next Monday for both an interview and a musical performance, the show announced today.

BTS made their Tonight Show debut in 2018. While it wasn’t their first visit to an American late-night show—they’d made earlier appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Late Show with James Corden—they’ve returned to Fallon’s program more than any other.

All told, they’ve appeared together on the show nine times nine time, including a “Subway Special” episode in 2020 and a weeklong residency later that same year.

The group went on hiatus in 2022, partly to allow each member to complete South Korea’s mandatory 18-month military service. Since then, all seven members have released solo projects.

Several have chosen Fallon’s Tonight Show to make their solo debuts. In 2023, Jimin was a talk and musical guest over two nights. He returned last year to perform another song. Suga and Jungkook also made their solo debuts in 2023, and just a few months ago, Jin did the same.

J-Hope will be the fifth member to appear on The Tonight Show as a solo artist. He just launched his first worldwide solo tour, the Hope on the Stage Tour, in support of the EP he released last year, Hope on the Street Vol. 1. In conjunction with the tour announcement, he teased new music to be released this month.

The Tonight Show clearly remains aware of the weight these bookings carry in attracting younger audiences, treating them as event appearances. Unlike most guests, the BTS members receive special announcement videos from Fallon hyping up their bookings on social media.

That’s the case this time around, too. To ring in J-Hope’s visit, a behind-the-scenes video chronicles Fallon catching a ton of “hope”-related signs as he makes his way to the studio for rehearsal.

J-Hope will make his solo debut on The Tonight Show on Monday, March 10 at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
